Henry County: Warming Center of Martinsville & Henry County, 603 Memorial Boulevard South, Martinsville, VA 24112, will be operating 24 hours on Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25 Henry County: To help residents stay safe and warm, volunteer fire departments across the county will be available as warming locations during the daytime on Sunday and Monday. Residents may stop by to warm up briefly or charge their phones. These locations are not intended for overnight stays. The Dyers Store Volunteer Fire Department will also be open during the daytime on Saturday. Warming Center/Shelter The Temporary Relief & Counseling Center (TRCC) Warming Center is now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week due to the ongoing cold weather conditions. Guests are welcome around the clock for warmth, safety, and care. In addition to overnight shelter, guests may also access Day Center services during regular daytime hours. This is on a first-come, first-served basis. Clients may line up 20 minutes before opening on nights the shelter is active. The City of Richmond will activate the City Emergency Shelter at 5 p.m. on Friday Jan. 30. The shelter, located at Southside Community Center (6255 Old Warwick Road), will open to any individuals or families in need. Residents visiting the City Emergency Shelter with a pet in need should contact Richmond Animal Care and Control at 804-646-5573 for temporary housing options for their pet. Space is limited and available by appointment. Service Animals are always permitted in the City Emergency Shelter. The Salvation Army Inclement Weather Shelter and CARITAS Surge Shelter will continue to operate as planned. Richmond Public Libraries will serve as Warming Centers during regular hours of operation. The City of Lynchburg is anticipating a winter storm beginning Saturday afternoon, January 24 and continuing through Sunday, January 25. Heavy snow and sleet accumulations between six and 12 inches are expected, making travel very difficult to impossible. Extreme cold temperatures are expected to take hold Saturday and continue into next week, which will likely prolong the impact of the storm. The Salvation Army, 2215 Park Avenue, is operating a low-barrier warming center for unsheltered individuals and families in the community. The warming center will be open 24/7 beginning Friday evening, January 23. A hot meal will be served daily at 4:30 p.m. This warming center operation is partially funded by the City of Lynchburg’s Community Development Block Grant. The City is requesting the community’s help collecting the following items for the Salvation Army warming center: • New twin size sheet sets • New blankets or sleeping bags • New pillows • New thermal socks and gloves • Hand warmers • Personal hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, wipes) • Feminine hygiene products • Shelf-stable snacks (granola bars, crackers, ready-to-eat items) • Instant coffee, tea, or hot cocoa packets • Bottled water or Gatorade • Disposable cups and paper products • Towels These items can be dropped off at the following fire stations between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and before noon Saturday, January 24: • Station 1: 800 Clay Street • Station 3: 4701 Fort Avenue • Station 6: 2084 Fort Avenue • Station 7: 2624 Lakeside Drive GET PREPARED Residents are encouraged to take the following steps ahead of the weekend storm: • Stock emergency supplies (water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries) • Charge phones and backup batteries in case of power outages • Check on your neighbors, especially seniors, those living alone or anyone who may need extra help • Follow City of Lynchburg social media and subscribe to Lynchburg Alerts (details below)

Pittsylvania County will be opening Emergency Warming Centers for Pittsylvania County citizens who are in need due to winter storm conditions. These centers will be open from 8 am until 8 pm on Saturday, January 24, Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26. If you have the need for special foods (Ensure, etc.), you may bring them with you. If necessary, bring special dietary foods--such as diabetic, low salt, liquid diet, baby food, and formula. Medications: Medications clearly marked with your name, dosage, type of medication, and prescribing physician. You must be able to take all medications by yourself. Pets: Pets are not allowed at general shelters unless they are service animals. Miscellaneous: Bring a cell phone and any other items, along with charging cables, as you will be able to recharge these items. Not Allowed: alcoholic beverages or weapons. Smoking is not allowed in centers.

Covington City Warming center on standby at Council Chambers, City Hall, 333 W. Locust Street in Covington. If power is lost, the center will be activated upon request. To request call 540-965-6333. Clifton Forge: The Clifton Forge Fire Department, 701 Church Street, and the Clifton Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad, 1610 Hickory Avenue, will be open as warming stations starting at 0700 hours on Saturday, January 24, 2026, to Tuesday, January 27, 2026, due to the predicted winter storm. The stations may be open for a longer period of time based on the impacts of the storm.
