Currently has over 4,000 holdings documenting the history of African Americans. Books, periodicals, dissertations, theses, video and audio tapes are accessible by patrons. This library is a non-circulating facility but offers a 48-hour reserve shelf for patrons.

Historic Preservation - Wise, Wise County Historical Society

A membership organization dedicated to accumulating, preserving and protecting the history and genealogy of Wise County and the City of Norton. The society maintains a library of genealogical and historical books and manuscripts in Wampler Library, Mountain Empire Community College. Librarians trained in genealogical research will assist patrons with their family research. Wise County Historical Society publications are sold at the College Bookstore.

Avoca's goal is to create an atmosphere that simulates the interest and attention of those who are mentally handicapped and to provide them with a one-on-one interaction among staff and volunteers.
