Valley Health Senior Structured Outpatient Program is medically supervised and tailored to meet the needs of older adults requiring behavioral health treatment and extra support is required. Most therapy sessions will be in group format,although individual and family therapy can be provided if clinically indicated. These groups are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker or licensed professional counselor and under the supervision of a board certified psychiatrist. A satellite office of the New River Valley Community Services whose main office is in Blacksburg. Promotes independence and self-reliance for citizens of the New River Valley through the provision of community based services in the areas of mental health, developmental delay, substance abuse, and prevention.

Outpatient services are provided in each of the offices by clinical social workers, and counselors. Outpatient counseling services are brief in nature, often utilizing "solution focused" or other brief models of behavior modification. Outpatient services are provided at four different locations: Main Center (adjacent to SWCC), Tazewell County Satellite Office (Tazewell), Russell County Satellite Office (Lebanon), and at the Buchanan County Satellite Office (Grundy).

Outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs for adults are provided at Holston Counseling Center. Services include individual and group psychotherapy, marital and family therapy, pharmacotherapy, crisis services, case management, psychiatric consultation, intensive outpatient alcohol and drug treatment. Other services offered at this site include Co-Occurring Case Management, an intensive case management services for consumers who have a major mental illness and substance abuse disorder diagnosis; Mother-Child Connection, Mother-Child Connection, an outpatient program for substance-abusing women who are pregnant or mothers with dependent children; and HOPE for Tennessee, an education/prevention service provides information on HIV/STD's and other communicable diseases, universal precautions, abstinence, teen pregnancy and provides specialty services for individuals with HIV.
