Resource And Foster Families Team recruits, trains, approves and supports foster/adoptive families. RAFFT provide basic training several times a year both evening and day classes and a variety of other training to further assist our foster/adoptive parents.

Provides information, referral, and resources on parenting concerns; parenting classes include Children and Divorce; Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP); Parenting in a Military Family; Dads and Discipline, Enhancing Step Families, Parenting Teens, and Single Parenting in the Military. FFSC also offers a New Parent Resource Awareness Workshop for expectant active duty women.

Healthy Families Fairfax is for expectant parents or families with a newborn who wants help to be the best parent possible. A family support worker will visit you in your home on a regular basis before your child is born and continue to work with you until your child is ready for preschool or kindergarten.

Family Lifeline's Early Childhood Initiative offers three models of early childhood home visitation: Healthy Families, Children's Health Involving Parents (CHIP), and Parents As Teachers. We work in partnership with parents to offer health education and parenting guidance to pregnant persons and families with young children. Additionally, asthma case management services are provided to eligible children up to the age of 18 years.

Healthy Families West Piedmont home visitors support parents as they establish nurturing parent-child relationships, develop positive parenting skills, provide safe homes, and learn to support healthy child development. Families work to reduce risks and build resiliency so that they can raise healthy children who are ready to learn.

Provides intensive in-home family support services for at-risk first-time parents, beginning prenatal and continuing until the child is five years of age. Families participate voluntarily in the program and receive home visiting and referrals from trained staff. The program has three goals: to promote positive parenting, to encourage child health and development, and to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Engaged Fathers and Men improve the quality of children's lives by supporting fathers in becoming more Responsible, Empowering, Available and Loving men in the lives of their Children. Provides encouragement and support and resources and information to support their parenting goals. Children NEED fathers and fathers NEED their children. Provides information and support services for parents of children who attend or will be attending a Chesapeake City Public School. Services include: workshops and training sessions for parents and educators; maintenance of lending library of current educational resources; and obtains information and consults with parents to provide direction related to educational issues and community services.

BLOOMS: Care navigation from maternal and child health specialists who can connect with other health department and community resources as well as provide guidance and education. Baby Care: Education and case management services provided by a registered nurse to pregnant women and infants up to 2 years of age who are Medicaid eligible. Resource Mothers: A special mentoring program for first time pregnant or parenting teens. Teens will receive education about taking care of themselves and their infants up to one year of age. Teens will benefit from assistance with setting educational goals, accessing healthcare, and planning for the future care of their infant. Car Seat Program: Free, new car seats, including infant convertible seats and booster seats for older children, are available to families who qualify. Parents must attend a short instructional session to learn the correct placement and use of the car seat or booster seat.

The Youth and Family Support Services Program assists families with youth between the ages of 3-17 experiencing challenging peer and family relationships and life crises by strengthening parental and family relationships through prevention, education, and supportive case management services.

Second Story operates neighborhood-based drop-in centers and after-school programs, including a Teen Center, for youth and families in Culmore, Annandale, and Springfield. Through these programs, we offer food distribution; tutoring for students; parenting skills, health, and financial literacy education; the opportunity to connect with existing resources; and more.

Series of classes to assist parents in how to help their children develop responsibility, cooperation, courage and self-esteem. Classes for parents of teenagers include sessions on sexuality and substance abuse. Interested participants should call the Prevention Division to determine when and where classes are being offered.
